You can either mail me traditional photos or send quality digital files through email or mailed on a disk. I really love digital cameras because they allow for almost instant results, and you can take lots of pictures and edit them without spending a lot of money (& time) on film developing.

The following information should help you take photos of your home that will result in an excellent home portrait:

Take the main photos from an angle, if possible. That usually results in a more interesting picture than a "head-on" shot.

This front-view picture is fine, just not very interesting and doesn't show the house & landscaping at it's best.

I chose this side-angle photo for the final portrait, cutting out street details & zooming in on the home.

It generally works best to take the photos when the sun is shining toward the house (sun behind the photographer). The light helps show details & can create interesting shadows.

I love the angle & shadow patterns of this photo. The tree branches in the foreground really help frame the picture. I deleted the lp gast tank in the final portrait.

It really helps if you send me LOTS of photos of the details of your home: siding, trim, shingles, windows, lights, railings, brick patterns, landscaping, etc. The more photos I have to draw from, the more accurately (and interestingly) I can portray your home.

It helps if you photograph the house from many angles & close in on all pertinent details. I had probably a couple of dozen photographs of this house to work from.

Following are examples of photographs that may have helped me with the details, and some might have been o.k. for the "main" photo, but they wouldn't have been my first choice.

Note how much of the house is cut off, & the car is in the way.

This photo is a little distant, and there is too much unnecessary clutter (signs, pole, car, street, in the foreground.

This photo is not centered, looks skewed, and the tree is sort of taking over the picture.

This photo is just sort of "cold" and would make an off-balance composition.

This photo emphasizes the garage & driveway, not the most attractive features of this home.

Finally, don't stress out about the photos. You know your home better than anyone, and you don't need to be a professional photographer to achieve good results. I have lots of experience, and I'm flexible about working with whatever pictures are provided to me.
